I get loads of work done when I’m at Sub Urban but I really like the (unobtrusive) social aspect - the odd chat, eating lunch with other people, Friday drinkies, that sort of thing.
It is both fascinating and inspiring to find out all the sorts of things that self employed people do in this neck of the woods! What a diverse neighbourhood we have.
This is a biggie. Before working at Sub Urban, I didn’t really feel a sense of community in Johnsonville. Well, it turns out I just hadn’t put myself in it!
I feel so much more connected to the local community now, partly just from being a at SubUrban I suppose, and getting to know others in the area who are self employed or work remotely. But also because of the meet ups that are held there and the Meet the Neighbours Party, and the art exhibits.
Professional Space & Meeting Rooms
I do skype meetings for work and I have to say that I always feel so much more professional skyping from the nice meeting rooms at Sub Urban. The meeting rooms have comfy furniture, a nice, clean, minimalist backdrop with some art on the walls and good lighting options.
Just getting out of my house
Okay, I’m not a fan of commuting but it is good to get out of the house every now and then :)
Proximity to the gym
I go (slightly) more often because it’s just right there.
School Holiday Escape
My son’s 14 so he’s no longer in school holiday programs. Although he does try to respect my work time, I am inevitably interrupted and less focused working from home with him there. SubUrban to the rescue!
I know, I already mentioned eating lunch with other co-workers at SubUrban. But I had to mention it again with it’s own title and everything because… I go in for lunch sometimes even on days when I am not working there. Sometimes I just need to get out of the house and connect with people! It’s so great having that option :)
I love that we have art exhibits - the only place in the Northern Suburbs I think?! It’s great to have this space to help support local artists, and also great for us co-workers to have their art on the walls of our workspace.
All that, just from one day a week at Sub Urban co-working space - I won’t be giving it up that’s for sure! Thanks so much to the people whose hard work and vision has made SubUrban a reality. It’s been so beneficial to me that I’m now volunteering on the SubUrban Development Group - taking SU to the next level.
