Tourism Taranaki's new slogan promoting Taranaki as "A Little Bit out There" sits rather nicely with the work that Graham Nelson and his partner Jacquelin Elley have done in establishing Taranaki's first co-working space, Manifold.
Out There, by the way, is considered to be cutting edge and innovative. And that is definitely what they have done with this space. Graham wanted to create an "ideal work environment". That meant light, spacious and stylee.
I visited Graham last week on the spur of the moment. I was on my way up to New Plymouth on my family's annual pilgrimage to WOMAD and sent him a quick email. "ummm can I please pop in and say hello?"
Like you'd expect from someone who has set up a collaborative space, Graham was super open and friendly and he said "yes of course! Yes please pop in !"
We shared co-working yarns - the cool stuff and the challenges - over some supremely yummy local Mountain Brew beer.
In addition to getting the co-working space up and running only a year or so ago, Graham and Jacquelin ran Taranaki's first Start Up Weekend. And for those of you who have been involved in Start Up Weekend you'll know that it ain't for the faint hearted! Go Manifold. That's a massive contribution to the small business community.
Thanks again for your hospitality Graham, and I look forward to catching up with you at Sub Urban when you are in Wellington next!
And if you are in New Plymouth and are looking for a spot to work from Manifold welcomes casual co-workers as well :)
