Charmaine and I met with Grant Robertson, MP for Wellington Central, to learn more about the Future of Work Commission that he is leading.
Grant and his team have done a lot of listening to the community over the last year or so - about the issues we are facing as our work force is presented with constant change and industries disappear overnight.
He also understood that there is huge latent economic potential in our communities - people wanting to participate and having skills to contribute - but our existing inflexible labour market excludes them. What a lost opportunity.
The necessity for solutions to be nimble, that can respond quickly to local needs and that these solutions be from ground up were other themes that came through. Grant's saw the governments role as creating an environment where solutions to these problems will flourish.
We at Sub Urban whole heartedly support this, and are delighted that Grant is interested in using our model of community economic development as a case study in the Future of Work Commissions final report.
We look forward to seeing something concrete coming out of this process.
Thanks for coming into meet us Grant - it really was a pleasure,
Kathleen from Sub Urban
