Last Friday at Sub Urban Co-Working we hosted a different kind of Neighbours party.
We teamed up with AMI Insurance and threw a party for all the invisible enterprises in or our town centre - those non-retail workers that are hidden away in the office blocks or above shops.
We figured that knowing the people we work beside every day was pretty important to make Johnsonville feel like a place where we all want to belong, feel proud of and grow vibrant businesses and community organisations.
Viv and Mark from AMI, and me, Kathleen, from Sub Urban went to every office and hand delivered party invites to 75 different organisations - from accountants to youth workers to independent travel agents. Such a wonderful diversity of people and occupations!
On the night we had a great turn out. We polished off the yummy food from Nada Bakery, slurped our way through some tasty bottles and got to know our neighbours. We talked about how neat it was to get together and meet each other.
Will we run Meet the Neighbours again? You bet! And we really hope that other town centres like ours will do the same.
