One of the challenges we face in our office (a converted retail space) is the lack of connection to the outside world.
There are no external windows, so we don’t know what the weather is doing unless we pop outside.
Short of asking the Centre Management to bash a hole in the wall, we didn’t think there was much we could do.
One of the cool things about working here at Sub Urban is that we have workmates who are very diverse in backgrounds and interests and industries - from software developers to authors, rental property managers to graphic designers … and the local Park Ranger. Oh and that Park Ranger just happened to have set up Kaka Cam and RoyalCam. So how about applying that learning to solve our window problem?
So here it is, The Windowless Office Cam. It livestreams the weather and the view of our maunga (mountain) Kaukau. Pretty foggy in Wellingtons' northern 'burbs today!
Like any idea we are testing it. We are going to project it onto a wall in our co-working space for a week, collect feedback to see if it improves our working environment and if it does we will try and get hold of a telly screen for a permeant “window”!
Big thanks to Matt Robertson for his work on this project - it's been a lot of fun :)
