At Sub Urban our mission is to build suburban enterprise capacity and connectedness, so that meant heading off to the local college to help out the business students with their year 13 business project.
Going into a high school classroom when you haven't been there for ummmm rather a long time can be a bit intimidating - thanks to Robbie and the Year 13's for their warm welcome.
I had less than an hour to scoot around the teams, get an idea of their business idea and from this match them up with a mentor from our Sub Urban network.
I can safely say that the experience was energising and inspiring. Go Wellington youth!
So here's a wee run down of the 4 teams that I met and the business idea that they are working on - very much at the early stages.
Team "sustainable, kiwiana beauty products".
A whopping big thank you to Kareen Holland of KD One Cosmetics www.kdone.co.nz who has offered to mentor this team.
Team "functional art from everyday recycled items i.e. lamps created from bottles"
Iona Elwood-Smith, from www.growmmybusiness.com, who has a passion for recycled art has offered to mentor this team. Thanks Iona!
Team "re-marketing infuser bottles, making them cheaper and targeted at the youth male market"
Again thanks to Iona from www.growmmybusiness.com (she's a keen bean) for mentoring this team as well.
And last (but certainly not least) Team "de-stigmatizing and supporting young men with depression through interviews/stories of role models who have experienced depression. "
Bice Awan, co-founder Sub Urban and a leading light in NZ in mental health will be mentoring this team. Thanks so much Bice.
I'l keep you updated as to how these teams go in their business journey.
If you can provide advice or contacts that may help with their ideas please let me know by emailing Kathleen at suburban.coworking@gmail,com
